Staff Development Course

Launch Live Demo

This project was completed for a graduate course in the spring of 2015. The guidelines for this assignment were to create an online staff development training program for our current place of employment.

Work Process
Since I was working as a nanny at the time of this project, there were no other staff members at my place of employment, so I had to get creative to determine who my audience was and what they needed to know.

Analysis
I consulted with other nannies that I know, as well as with an online nanny group I’m a member of to determine their training needs. Based on my research, time management was ranked as one of the top areas in which nannies wanted more training. To meet this need, I decided to develop a training program to teach nannies how to use digital tools for organization and time management.

After determining my learners’ needs, I researched digital tools to choose the one that would be the most useful and adaptable for nannies. The criteria I considered in selecting a tool was that it needed to be free, able to accommodate schedules for multiple families, support communication with parents and available on multiple platforms and devices. I determined that Google Calendar was the best tool available to meet this criteria.

Design
After I selected the topic and tool I would be using for the staff development, I created a concept map to outline the modules that would be included in the training program. I also outlined the website design for the user interface and determined the method of delivery for the course should be a series of video tutorials with accompanying step-by-step instructional guides.

Development
During this phase of the project, I wrote an outline for what would be covered in each module, followed by a script for each video tutorial. I used Camtasia Studio to record the screen and my audio voiceover for each tutorial video. I then used Camtasia to edit the video, add closed captioning, and publish the videos to Screencast.com. I also created and assembled the step-by-step instructional guides and other training documentation, created graphics and built out the website, created a short introduction video using Moovly, and then assembled everything into the website for delivery of the training program.
